Buy in St Mary’s, Northam and Bevois Valley

St Mary’s, Northam and Bevois Valley are ideal for both Solent University and Southampton University. There are also industrial estates in close proximity attracting working professionals.


Bevois Valley is an inner city area of Southampton. It’s within Bevois Electoral Ward, and includes areas called Bevois Town & Bevois Mount. The area lies south of Portswood and is within easy walking distance of the city centre.

St Mary’s is an area of Southampton in England. It consists of two areas separated by Six Dials junction. The northern section of the district is literally St Mary’s Road and some streets to the west – the area to the east is Nicholstown-Newtown. The northern section is home to the fire station.

The majority of St Mary’s is in the southern portion, to the east of St Mary Street. This is where St Mary’s church is located, from which the suburb’s name originates. The southern section is also home to the Golden Grove area. It gives its name to St Mary’s Stadium, where Southampton Football Club play, although the stadium itself is in the neighbouring suburb of Northam.

Northam is a suburb of Southampton in Hampshire. On the West bank of the River Itchen, it shares borders with St Mary’s, Hampshire, Bitterne and Bevois Valley.

Residential Area

Bevois Valley – Although it is further from the University of Southampton than Portswood it is a popular location for students (possibly due to the proximity of Southampton Solent University), though there is a higher proportion of permanent residents. 

Shopping/ Leisure and Community

There are various shops in Bevois Valley and St Marys Northam. These include agents, takeaways, electronics and even a bicycle store.


Bevois valley is home to Clown’s Wine Bar and Jester’s Nightclub, which are two very popular student destinations on a night out. There are many takeaways and venues catering for students and locals. Along with Portswood, it is also increasingly seen as home to Southampton’s burgeoning music scene. Consequently, many venues now offer regular live music opportunities for both locals and internationally acclaimed acts.

Local schools/ Education

Bevois valley is home to a local primary school ‘Bevois town Primary school’


The nearest train station is St Denys railway station with many direct services into Southampton Central.

In 2001, South West Trains chose Northam as the location for the maintenance facility for their new Desiro fleet of trains. Consequently, these replaced the last slam-door trains to run on the network.
