Millbrook and Redbridge are just on the outskirts of Southampton city centre attracting mainly families and couples.


Redbridge is a ward with a population of 14,432, 3.1 miles (5.0 km) to the west of the city centre of Southampton.

Millbrook is a suburb and former civil parish of the city. As the area developed, several settlements grew within the parish. Consequently, some of them became parishes in their own right, thus reducing the extent of the Millbrook parish.

Residential Area

Redbridge is a mainly residential and industrial. There is a large council estate and a tower block situated within the ward. The A35 road crosses the River Test at Redbridge, as does the South Western Main Line railway.

The A35 Tebourba Way splits Millbrook in half. In general, the west contains council estates, and the east is private housing, including Regents Park and Freemantle.

Shopping/ Leisure and Community

There is a sports pavilion and community centre in Mansel Park in Redbridge.

Millbrook contains a small retail park with a bowling alley and 2 hardware stores. Along Millbrook point road, there is a Goals soccer centre, a 12 pitch 5-a-side football ground. There is a lot of Green Park lands in Millbrook, hence its full title of Millbrook Park Estate; this includes Green Park, Test Park, Millbrook Rec., plus numerous school playing fields.


Southampton like most cities offers an abundance of nightlife. Redbridge has numerous local pubs and restaurants to suit all taste buds. Pubs include ‘The Ship Inn’ .

Local schools/ Education

Schools in the area include the Redbridge Community School which is a specialist sports college in Cuckmere Lane, and Redbridge Primary School in Redbridge Road. The primary school has a capacity of 210 children of both genders, and as of January 2008 had 204 children in total (97 girls, 107 boys). Redbridge Community School is a secondary school with a capacity of 900.


Redbridge railway station has hourly services into Southampton City Centre, Eastleigh, Romsey, Salisbury and Chandlers Ford. There is also a number of bus operators in the area, predominately First Hampshire & Dorset and Solent Blue Line. It’s also easily accessible by car with M271 motorway and A35 road both running through Redbridge.
