Buying or Renting in Bassett

Bassett boarders Southampton City Centre, attracting students, working professional and also families. It also has a huge range of housing, mainly detached.


Bassett is a suburb and electoral ward of Southampton, England. The suburb lies to the north of the city centre and is bounded by Lordswood, Bassett Green and Highfield. It has a population of 13,139 as of the 2001 Census.

Bassett is the location of the University of Southampton’s Glen Eyre Halls of residence complex and the Southampton Sports Centre. Other landmarks include the lovely St. Michael’s church.

Residential Area

The west of Bassett Avenue/ The Avenue is dotted with semi-detached and detached private housing as well as a golf course and the Sports Centre. To the east is terraced housing inhabited by long-standing close-knit communities such as on the Flower Estate.


Southampton city centre is very close by where you will find all the shops you will need. The village itself does however offer its own selection of convenience stores, pharmacies and hairdressers.


Bassett is only a short journey away from Southampton City centre which offers lots of very popular pubs, bars and nightclubs on Bedford place and Oxford street.  Transport to and from the city centre runs till late. Pubs include ‘The Crown and Sceptre’ and ‘The Stoneham Arms’.

Local Schools

Bassett is very close to the Southampton University premises and offers plenty of secondary schools including ‘Cantell’. It is also home to ‘Bassett Green Primary School’.


The village is only a short drive to the M3 and other motorway links. The Bluestar 1 bus also operates regular journeys into Southampton City centre and to Winchester.  It is also only a short journey to Southampton train station.
